(PRESS RELEASE)

The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) will be launching its 'Adopt an Animal' campaign at the Central Zoo in Jawalakhel tomorrow on March 03  through the Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to celebrate 25 years of the Central Zoo under the NTNC management. The day has been selected to coincide with the special occasion of World Wildlife Day.

Beginning with the highest office in the government, the campaign aims to create an opportunity to incentivize individuals, persons, groups or organizations to become direct stakeholders in the Central Zoo's animal management and education programme. It envisions creating a circle of responsibility, inclusiveness and agency for building a personal relationship with wildlife.

In light of the Covid-19 situation, when the Central Zoo was completely shut down for almost nine months last year (from March to December),  the campaign will  help generate interests and investments necessary to support the Central Zoo management cope with funding stresses.

Presently the Central-Zoo is home to 1160 animals of 110 species. Caring for them requires making sustained investments in meeting their regular diet and health needs, enclosure management and enrichment facilities, and other zookeeping and specialized services.

Adopt an animal campaign will first start with 12 animals (see booklet below for adoption details). By adopting an animal of your choice, you are entrusting upon us a commitment and solidarity to do more for wildlife. Share your care. Because your decision matters!
