The Hon'ble Minister for Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment who also serves as the Chairperson of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) Gita Chaudhary, recently held a meeting with Thai wildlife conservationist Saengduean Lek Chailert during an official visit to Thailand.

Ms. Chailert is a globally acclaimed founder of the Save Elephant Foundation and Elephant Nature Park, organizations dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and long-term protection of Asian elephants.

The meeting focused on key areas of mutual interest, establishing a foundational dialogue for cross-border cooperation between Nepal and Thailand on Asian elephant conservation, community-based management systems and human-wildlife conflict mitigation.

The Minister stated that exchanging international expertise and proven field methodologies is essential for Nepal to successfully advance biodiversity conservation, manage wildlife effectively and mitigate human-wildlife conflict.

Furthermore, she emphasized on linking environmental protection frameworks directly with the livelihoods of local communities. Mrs. Chailert shared her decade’s long experience in rescuing and rehabilitating Asian elephants. She also spoke about a highly synchronized, robust partnership involving state governments, grassroots communities, and international stakeholders.
