The Right Hon'ble Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) made a surprise visit to the Central Zoo in Jawalakhel today afternoon where he was received by the NTNC-Central Zoo team led by the NTNC Member Secretary Mr. Sharad Chandra Adhikari and Director Dr. Naresh Subedi. During the visit, the zoo team accompanied the prime minister on a guided tour and briefed him about the Central Zoo's whereabouts. Prime Minister Dahal shared that his visit to the Central Zoo was not particularly planned, and that due to his day's schedule coinciding around the area, he was interested to see for himself how the only national-level zoo of the country was operating and being managed. Prime Minister Dahal recounted his last visit to the zoo over 30 years ago and expressed satisfaction in the advances made in ensuring its present scientific management capacities and visitor facilities. The prime minister, also being the patron of NTNC, made known his willingness to further enhance NTNC and the Central Zoo's overall impact. He reiterated his support for prioritizing the national zoological garden project in Bhaktapur so that current animal management challenges at the Central Zoo due to less space could be overcome and the future could be led by more scientific and animal wellbeing-based ex situ conservation approaches.
