In a proactive step toward strengthening collaborative networks for environmental protection, NTNC-KCC successfully organized a one-day wildlife crime control sensitization workshop in Koshi Province.
The program brought together diverse journalists and media personnel representing various media platforms to create open dialogue, address environmental challenges, and the role that media professionals play in combatting wildlife crime.
The interactive workshop deeply engaged participants on key issues surrounding wildlife crime control, human-wildlife coexistence, and the strategic importance of accurate and ethical environmental reporting. Throughout the sessions, key conservation leaders, officials, and resource persons shared expert insights and presentations:
- Bhupendra Yadav, Acting Senior Conservation Officer and Warden of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR), opened the discussions by highlighting ongoing reserve activities and emphasizing the role of media collaboration.
- Birendra Gautam, NTNC KCC Chief, provided a detailed overview of the various conservation initiatives and provincial activities carried out by NTNC-KCC in Koshi Province.
- Major Prakash Khadka from the Nepal Army shared valuable strategic insights regarding the collective responsibilities and security efforts required to combat illegal wildlife trade.
- Ashok Subedi, NTNC Senior Conservation Officer, delivered expert perspectives addressing the complexities of human-wildlife conflicts and how media platforms can effectively help mitigate them.
- Gobinda Prasad Pokharel, NTNC Conservation Officer, drew from his previous experience in mainstream media to discuss effective storytelling ideas, combat strategies against wildlife crime, and the critical selection of proper phrases and topics to encourage human-wildlife coexistence reporting.
The event concluded with participating journalists and media personnel actively sharing their practical field experiences and challenges.
Attendees collectively emphasized the strong need for ongoing specialized training and collaborative media events in the region. Through such united efforts, stakeholders reaffirmed their shared commitment in creating a safer, more sustainable environment for Nepal's wildlife.
