Today June 05 is World Environment Day. And on this very special occasion dedicated to planet, nature and all of life, as we bring you our best wishes, NTNC would like to take the opportunity to call on you all to be part of our 'Adopt-an-Animal' campaign at the Central Zoo. Our appeal especially goes out to those of you who share a personal affection for wild animals, including our Nepali brothers and sisters at home and in the overseas. More than ever your support matters.

Covid-19 has left no part the world unscathed, including Nepal that continues to suffer deeply from the second wave of the coronavirus. The pandemic has already taken a huge toll in NTNC's overall efforts in wildlife conservation, research and monitoring, and community mobilization. Our own revenue streams have fallen significantly, and due to Covid, our access to donor resources has been increasingly limited. The situation has given rise to serious challenges in the operation of the NTNC-managed Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, where over 1100 animals are being kept, nourished and cared for daily.

NTNC's Adopt-an-Animal campaign was initiated so that an opportunity for meaningful human-wildlife engagement and relationship-building could be possible, through a guardian-like arrangement made for each animal at the zoo. The campaign was launched earlier this year on March 03, starting with the Patron of NTNC, the Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli, who adopted the globally rare and threatened one-horned rhinoceros.

Now with the Central Zoo facility closed again due to the new Covid-19 restrictions, after being shut for almost nine months before this, your support and cooperation in our adoption campaign cannot be overstated. On this favorable occasion of the World Environment Day, NTNC would like call out to your passions for wildlife and nature conservation to join us in this solidarity appeal. It is time to reset our relations with nature. Come forward. Adopt-an-Animal. Share your care. More than ever your support matters. Happy World Environment Day.
